Role Purpose & Contribution:

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join our Engineering team and support the design, development, and improvement of products used within mineral processing and heavy industry environments. This role plays a key part in bridging engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions to customers. 

Reporting to the Engineering Team Lead, the Design Engineer will contribute to new product development, modification of existing products, and provide technical support to both internal stakeholders and customers. 

Key Responsibilities 

Product Design & Engineering  

  • Design and engineer new products and modifications to existing products.
  • Perform solid modelling, detailed drafting, and technical analysis/simulation.
  • Conduct site-based inspections, reverse engineering, and data collection to inform product improvements.
  • Provide technical support to internal teams and customers, including sales and manufacturing.
  • Assist the sales team with technical and engineering expertise when required.
  • Coordinate new and optimised product designs through the engineering and manufacturing processes.
  • Prepare technical documentation relating to the manufacture and use of products.
  • Ensure engineering drawings meet required technical and drafting standards.
  • Maintain and manage all technical documentation and design knowledge.
  • Support the protection and controlled release of company intellectual property.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with quality, safety, and manufacturing standards.
  • Visit customer sites to support product installation, inspections, and performance analysis. 

Work Planning & Scheduling  

  • Ensure compliance with company processes, safety standards, and documentation requirements. 
  • Manage design changeovers for superseded parts and coordinate disposal of legacy components with relevant teams. 
  • Work collaboratively with order processing, inventory, sales, and manufacturing teams to ensure smooth implementation of design changes. 

About You 

Qualifications 

  • Tertiary qualification in Engineering (Mechanical or related discipline preferred).
  • Professional Engineering certification (or equivalent) desirable. 

Experience 

  • Experience in mining, mineral processing, or heavy manufacturing environments highly regarded.
  • Proven experience in product design and engineering problem solving.
  • Experience with structural calculations is advantageous.
  • Exposure to PLM systems such as Teamcenter is desirable.
  • Experience with 3D scanning or Geomagic software is beneficial. 

Technical Skills 

  • Strong 3D modelling and 2D drafting skills, preferably using Siemens NX or similar CAD software.
  • Knowledge of mineral processing or material handling equipment highly regarded.
  • Familiarity with engineering analysis tools such as ANSYS FEA or DEM software is advantageous.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
