Role Description

As a Team Leader / Senior Engineer, you will sit at the intersection of technical excellence and team empowerment. You will be responsible for architecting robust solutions, mentoring junior-to-mid-level developers, and ensuring that our agile processes, managed through Jira, are streamlined and effective. You are not just writing code; you are building the environment where great code happens.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Design & Implementation: Lead the architectural design of complex systems, ensuring scalability, security and maintainability
  • Code Quality: Set the standard for clean, well-documented code. Conduct rigorous code reviews and establish best practices for the entire engineering team.
  • Problem Solving: Act as the final point of escalation for complex technical bugs or architectural bottlenecks

Team Management & Mentorship

  • People Development: Provide technical mentorship and career guidance to engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning
  • Resource Allocation: Work with stakeholders to balance technical debt with new feature development
  • Culture: Promote a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance engineering culture

Agile Workflow & Jira

  • Project Oversight: Work with the Project Manager to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of engineering tasks within Jira, ensuring tickets are well-defined, estimated and prioritised
  • Process Optimisation: Utilise Jira Reporting (Burndown charts etc) and other analysis to identify bottlenecks and improve team throughput
  • Sprint Leadership: Lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives

Required Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years in professional software development (not personal projects or university), with a minimum of 1-2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity
  • Technical Stack:
  • Agile Mastery: Deep expertise in Agile / Scrum methodologies and advanced proficiency with Jira (including workflow customisation, dashboarding, and integration management)
  • Communication: Ability to translate complex technical concepts into “business-speak” for non-technical stakeholders
  • DevOps Mindset: Solid understanding of CI/CD principles, cloud infrastructure (AWS) and automated testing

  • Expertise in high-growth environments or scaling products from MVP to enterprise-level
  • A “product-first” mindset – understanding that the best technical solution is the one that solves the user’s problem most efficiently

  • Product Stability: The team’s Jira board is a source of truth, with clear workflows and predictable sprint velocities
  • Team Growth: Measurable improvement in the technical autonomy of our junior team members
  • Delivery: Successful deployment of at least one major architectural improvement or feature set under your leadership
