Senior Distribution Engineer, GitLab: Build<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

An overview of this role<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

As a Distribution Engineer, your work within the\u00a0GitLab Build team\u00a0will help us manage the build pipelines, research support for new services, platforms, and architectures, as well as maintain existing ones. You will be tasked with ensuring the components that make up GitLab are up-to-date, license compliant, and available for our users\u2019 platforms and architectures.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

GitLab Build engineering regularly interfaces with broader development teams in supporting newly created features. The GitLab Build team is involved with diverse projects and tasks that include assisting community packaging efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What you\u2019ll do<\/strong>  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \n
  • Multi-Platform Packages:<\/strong>\u00a0Build and maintain packages for supported Linux distributions and architectures. Participate in product release activities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Container Images:<\/strong>\u00a0Develop and maintain official GitLab container images<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Build Tooling & Infrastructure:<\/strong>\u00a0Develop and maintain tools that enable efficient component building<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Integration Services:<\/strong>\u00a0Ensure development team components integrate seamlessly into GitLab packages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Security Partnership<\/strong>: Collaborate with Security teams to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities, proactively improve posture and footprint.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Dependency Management:<\/strong>\u00a0Maintain up-to-date, secure dependencies across all components<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Documentation & Self-Service:<\/strong>\u00a0Create guides and provide infrastructure enable and facilitate development teams working independently<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Cloud Marketplace:<\/strong>\u00a0Manage listings and integrations with major cloud providers<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Installation Experience:<\/strong>\u00a0Maintain install, update, and upgrade documentation and processes pertaining to GitLab installation and setup<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Quality Assurance:<\/strong>\u00a0Ensure all installation methods are thoroughly tested before release<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Code License Management:<\/strong>\u00a0Ensure compliance across all bundled dependencies<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Partner Certifications:<\/strong>\u00a0Submit components and packages to partners for validations and certifications<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    What you\u2019ll bring <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Familiarity with GNU\/Linux build toolchains (autotools, make, cmake, gcc, etc.)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Production experience with building container images and container build tooling<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Experience with Debian and RHEL based systems, and building .deb and .rpm packages<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Experience using Continuous Integration systems (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Action, Jenkins, Travis)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Advanced Shell Scripting expertise in production environments, including the ability to write and maintain complex scripts (Ruby, Golang, Python, or Rust are a plus)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Familiarity with building and packaging cloud native applications<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal, sufficient for success in a remote and largely asynchronous work environment<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Experience with major cloud providers (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Knowledge of service scaling and rollout strategies. (Desirable)<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Awareness of Observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, etc) is a
