Job description

Glen Raven is seeking an experienced Adobe Commerce Developer to architect, develop, and optimize our Sunbrella Commerce platform. This role will serve as a developer and technical architect, participating in all aspects of development, upgrades, security, and performance improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a developer for Adobe Commerce (Magento) solutions, including custom module development, integrations, and platform upgrades.
  • Ensure PHP migrations, MySQL upgrades, and transition to Valkey are successful.
  • Oversee compatibility audits for custom and third-party modules, ensuring alignment with new PHP versions and Adobe Commerce 2.4.8 standards.
  • Define and enforce coding standards, including strict typing, PSR-2 adherence, and use of dependency injection.
  • Own all aspects of the development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, code review, testing, deployment, and documentation.
  • Refactor legacy code to address security vulnerabilities, performance bottlenecks, and maintainability concerns.
  • Implement and optimize caching strategies (Fastly, Valkey), CDN configurations, and page speed improvements.
  • Ensure robust integration with RabbitMQ, OpenSearch, LiveSearch and other platform components.
  • Proactively address security risks, including unescaped output, deprecated functions, and SQL injection vulnerabilities.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance using New Relic and other observability tools; resolve slow queries, high cache miss rates, and indexing issues.
  • Directly work with project lead and frontend developer.
  • Conduct code reviews, and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with QA, project management, and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality solutions on schedule.
  • Keep up to date on Adobe Commerce’s roadmap and feature rollouts. Carefully planning and implementing these changes while also supporting the organization’s development needs.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with Adobe Commerce (Magento 2), including custom module development and platform upgrades.
  • A thorough understanding and appreciation for PHP the right way (phptherightway.com).
  • Deep expertise in object-oriented PHP (including 8.3/8.4), MySQL, Valkey/Redis, LiveSearch, and Fastly CDN.
  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices, performance optimization, and modern software architecture.
  • Proven experience managing complex upgrade projects.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and code quality tools (e.g., PHPCBF, PSR-2).
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Adobe Commerce certification(s).
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure (Azure, AWS) and CDN optimization.
  • Prior experience with third-party integrations (Akeneo, Cybersource, Bazaarvoice).
  • Knowledge of accessibility (ADA) standards and compliance.
